Stamp commemorating “The Gospel from Jersika” presented

In August 22, 2020, Latvian Orthodox Church in cooperation with “Latvijas Pasts” and Latvian Christian academy presented postal stamp commemorating 750 years since the “Gospel from Jersika” was copied by Latvian Orthodox believer named Jurģis. It is the oldest known Gospel text from Latvia. The presentation was done in Riga Latvian Society House and was attended by President of Latvian Academy of Sciences Dr. Ojārs Spārītis, Director of Fundamental Library of Latvian University Dr. Venta Kocere, clergym artists and academics. Rector of Latvian Christian academy adressed the audience with extended history overview illuminating development of Orthodox Christianity in Latvia.

Conference on Sacred Art Heritage in Riga city environment

Academic conference on “Sacred Art heritage in the city environment, monuments and memorial places in Riga and Europe: Experience, practice and conclusions” was held in Riga, September 12-13, 2019. Priest. Jānis Dravants, lecturer at Latvian Christian academy, took part with presentation about “Symbols of the Orthodox Church in the Riga city environment”.

New book by Guntis Dišlers

Monograph “Towards the other Land” (“Uz citu zemi”) by Guntis Dišlers was published in July, 2019. The book deals with much-debated move of Latvian peasants from the Lutheran denomination into Orthodoxy in mid-19thy century in Latvia. The move is seen from various perspectives – economical, political, spiritual and psychological. Although the move is much-debated, it’s not been covered often in Latvian historiography. List of available literature in three languages is provided along with photographs.

International conference “Church, Family, School”

Complete Prayer Book published in Latvian

The Chapel was overfilled when the well-known theologian and lecturer A.Osipov from Moscow visited LChrA in October 30, 2008.
