Conference for Middle School Teachers and Pedagogy Researchers

Conference for Middle School teachers and pedagogy researchers “Cooperation competence in modern and future education” will be held in Ulbroka Cultural Center, Riga, October 22, 2020. The goal of the Conference is to promote alignment of the school pedagogy practice with research in modern pedagogy science. Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane will take part in the plenary session with presentation “Open Education Systems in Art and Social Education in Unity: Methodological Challenges”.

Annual RENOVABIS Congress

Rector of LChrA prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane attended the annual RENOVABIS Congress in September 8-10, 2020 (online). Cooperation models between the Church and educational institutions were discussed. RENOVABIS is a solidarity initiative of the German Catholics with the people in Central and Eastern Europe; Latvian Christian academy is parnering with RENOVABIS since late 1990-ies.

SP-YOUNG strategic partnerships at LChrA

Latvian Christian academy launches strategic partnership research on September 1-3, 2020 in cooperation with Social work experts from Malmo University (Sweden), University of Warsaw and University of Bialystok (Poland), and Klaipeda University (Lithuania). The overall goal of the partnership research is to promote the innovative development of Social work profession within the EU context. The work will go on two more years when strategic guidelines for EU universities offering social work study programmes will be presented aiming at Social work with young people. The new guidelines will comply with EC Social Agenda, and upgraded and innovative, European approach to clients will be introduced. A special course module along with the study material will be worked out. The basis for current discussions is discourse “SP-YOUNG Discourse of Cross-Border Situation”, published by prof. Skaidrīts Gūtmane, Rector of Latvian Christian academy. She worked on the publication whole last year and now it is available for further steps of the partnership project.

Stamp commemorating “The Gospel from Jersika” presented

In August 22, 2020, Latvian Orthodox Church in cooperation with “Latvijas Pasts” and Latvian Christian academy presented postal stamp commemorating 750 years since the “Gospel from Jersika” was copied by Latvian Orthodox believer named Jurģis. It is the oldest known Gospel text from Latvia. The presentation was done in Riga Latvian Society House and was attended by President of Latvian Academy of Sciences Dr. Ojārs Spārītis, Director of Fundamental Library of Latvian University Dr. Venta Kocere, clergym artists and academics. Rector of Latvian Christian academy adressed the audience with extended history overview illuminating development of Orthodox Christianity in Latvia.

New research on Caritative Social Work in EBSCO

Reserach by prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane “Caritative Social work as Innovation from Antiquity” was published in Proceedings of Kolping University of Applied Sciences “Challenges and social responsibility in business”, Lithuania, June, 2020, pp. 22-40. EBSCO data base.

New monograph “Supervision in Latvia”

In June 26, 2020, monograph “Supervision in Latvia” was officially opened. The book contains theoretical essays on Supervision as well as analysis of practical experience. Editor-in-Chief of the monograph Maija Zakričevska-Belogrudova, Dr.Psych., emphasized that the iniative to create professional standard for Supervisors was initiated by Prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane, Rector of Latvian Christian academy. Academicians and prpofessionals in the field attended the event. Monograpg “Supervision in Latvia” is published by high school RISEBA.

Discussion about the future of Europe

Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane was invited to attend the discussion hosted by the President Emeritus of European Council
Herman Van Rompuy with Victoria Martin de la Torre, the author of the book “Europe, the Leap into the Unknown”, and Fr. Martin Mayer from “Jesuit European Social centre”. The discussion will be joined by Mr. Jerome Vignon, long-term head of the “Semaines Sociales de France” think-tank group and other members. The discussion is organized by “Chapel for Europe” (Brussels) virtual cafe.

EC EZA General assembly and Kick-off seminar in Aachen

General assembly of the EC organization EZA (“European Center for Workers’ Questions”) was held in November 28-29, 2019, Aachen Germany. It was dedicated to social changes related to Climate Changes worldwide (link to various EC documents here; link to EZA page here here. The Assembly and Seminar was attended by Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane and assist.prof. Guntis Dišlers.

Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane visited Klaipeda University (Lithuania) as guest professor presenting “Innovation of Caritative social work” to both Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students in November 18-22, 2019. In a plenary session of the conference for Lithuanian social policy makers Rector presented “Innovation of Caritative social work” (November 21). The course was organized by Klaipeda University. Conference of teachers ans social workers in Liepāja

Annual regional conference of teachers and social workers from Liepāja district was held in Liepāja city “Latvian Society House” in October 21, 2019. Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane was invited as key speaker, the topic of her presentation was “Axiology and values in the context of communication”. The annual conference is unique due to its ability to gather professionals from various fields under one roof with Christian clergy willing to join their efforts and share their experience in the field. The conference was officially hosted by the Liepāja City Municipality.
