Senate meeting together with employers
Senate of Latvian Christian Academy held meeting together with invited representatives of employers of the social work students, April 14, 2022. Results of the pre-diploma and qualification fieldworks of students of the study program “Bachelor in Caritative social work” were analyzed and discussed in cooperative way. Secretary General of Latvian Free Trade Unions Ass. Mr. Egils Baldzēns, director of the social care center “Kurzeme” and president of Social care and rehabilitation institutions ass. Mr. Visvaldis Gūtmanis, head of the center for multifunctional social services for children and adults “Dzīvības aka” Mrs. Aija Akmane, head of the Jūrmala city Day care center for children with functional disabilities Mrs. Aija Tuņa participated in the meeting as employers; from Academy – assist. prof. Annual “Welfare Day”
Annual “Social Welfare Day” gathers both graduates and students from Social work and Caritative social work study programs, currently in May 19, 2021. Program: discussion about the role and prestige of social worker’s profession and criteria for its effectiveness. Disucssion was moderated by the head of Association of the Professional Christian Social Workers Mrs. Aina Āriņa. The question was: how to follow requirements of the Law of Social services with regards to Caritative social work and how employers evaluate the performance quality of graduates?
On transforming attitude towards client in Social work practice
Journal for Social work development “Sociālais darbs Latvijā” [“Social work in Latvia’] (Nr. 1, 2021) has published an article by Rector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane “Transforming attitude towards client: An experience of the Antioch anthropological and theolocial school”. Students from St. Ignatius Loyola University of Applied Sciences
In March 7-18, 2021, 15 students from St. Ignatius Loyola University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania) attended course module “Audit of social services”. From Lithuanian side the group visit and studies were coordinated by assist. prof. Egle Purvaneckaite and ass.prof. Laimute Anužiene; from Latvian side – prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane and assist. prof. Dace Dolace. Added value – asist. prof. George v. Durtanosky enriched studies with master class in calligraphy since there was a group of students from Lithuanian ERASMUS mobility.
