“Semaines Sociales de France” (SSF) and the “Central Committee of German Catholics” (ZdK) think-tank “IXE-Group” (“Initiatives of Christians for Europe”) have published Statement “On Human Dignity and Solidarity as Pillars for a New European Asylum System”. The meeting between the Think-tank IXE-Group members (D, D, ES, CZ, LU, F, PL – also GB present) was held in Madrid, October 9-10, 2020 (partially online via ZOOM). ector of Latvian Christian academy prof. Herman Van Rompuy with Victoria Martin de la Torre, the author of the book “Europe, the Leap into the Unknown”, and Fr. Martin Mayer from “Jesuit European Social centre”. The discussion will be joined by Mr. Jerome Vignon, long-term head of the “Semaines Sociales de France” think-tank group and other members. The discussion is organized by “Chapel for Europe” (Brussels) virtual cafe.
Latvian Christian academy is member of the Semaines Sociales de France think-tank IXE-group. This organization is guided by recognition of common European values which were put in writing by on the European Founding Fathers Robert Schumann (1886-1963). Commemorating 70 years of the Schuman Declaration on 9th May “Zentralkomitee der deutschen Katholiken: and SSF have published Declaration available here.
R.Schumann insisted that joint labors of European citizens must be aimed at solidarity since only then we can work for peace and well-being in our continent. “The spirit of EU is a spirit of solidarity,” R.Schumann wrote, adding: “national activities should be taken within the context of interpersonal, international and global context.”
Consequently, individual attitudes must be changed and Christian social teaching must be used as foundation to promote respect and protection of every person for the benefit of common well-being.
At the end of February, 2019. think-tank IXE-group of Semainers Sociales de France has published “Call for Acrion” before Europarliament elections in May this year. Meeting of the IXE think-tank group (partnering with “Semaines Sociales de France”) was held in Krakow (Poland), in March 9-11, 2018. The group (members from 14 EU countries) gathers twice a year to discuss topical issues of the European social development with subsequent work on recommendations.
