Parliament session held at the Academy

The outgoing session of the Committee of Social and employment matters of the Latvian Parliament was held in Latvian Christian Academy in June 18, governed by the Chairman Mrs. Aija Barča (Doctor Honoris Causa). The potential of educators for further development of the State and further cooperation between the Academy, State institutions and the Church were discussed. Members of the Committee – Parliamentarians D. Staķe, A.Kantāne, A.Baštik as well as Director of the Department Social services and assistance Mr. V.Gūtmanis and representatives from Latvian Orthodox Church, Secretary of the Holy Synod Jānis Sičevskis and pr. Jānis Dravants were present. Rector LChrA Dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane explained the concept of the Study programme „Caritative social work” created in close cooperation with several partnering organizations in Europe.
The Chairman of the Comittee Mrs. Aija Barča was honored with Order of Holy Martyr Jānis Pommers of Latvian Orthodox Church for her support to Caritative social work and Christian initiatives on the government level.
