The conference was organized in September 8-9, 2006, by LChrA in cooperation with Latvian Social Dialogue Educational Centre, experts from EZA (European Center for Worker’s Questions, DE), EUROFEDOP (European Federation for Workers in Social Services, BE) and EUROMF (European Middle Field Organization, BE). The gathered problems of identity and tolerance in the modern-day globalization process were analyzed. European Union has opened new perspectives for development of communitarian and positively tolerant society although migration of workforce has revealed clashes of diverse world views and convictions. Tolerance has become a stumbling block for many entrepreneurs, personnel managers being in contradiction with normative documents of EU and traditional views in society.
Experts from EC – Belgium, Flanders, Italy, as well as specialists from Norway and USA participated in discussions. Minister of Integration of Latvia Mrs. K.Pētersone also took part in the conference. Discussions were held by the former Director of Human Rights Office Dr. O.Brūveris and Rector of LChrA Dr. Skaidrīte Gūtmane.
