New NORDPLUS HIGHER EDUCATION project

Latvian Christian Academy was approved as coordinating institution of the consortial NORDPLUS HIGHER EDUCATION project “WE-THINK: ACCELERATING SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY” (NPHE-2023/10257) (2023-2025). Consortial network and intensive course embraces Latvian Christian Academy, Kalipeda University (LT) and VID Specialized UNiversity (NO).

Two days seminar with participants from diverse Universities on Christian social work development.

European Christian Academy was considered by Christian Social Work Association as innovative for social work development in Europe. Among social work specialists and educators from Norway, Wheaton College (USA), EHB (Germany), CHE (The Netherlands), CHAT (Poland), Partium (Romania) will give reports on Christian work innovations and foresights. European Christian Academy will report on importance of sytemic knowledge in anthropology which comes from Judeo-Christian revelation and Church fathers in Patristics. Innovation which streams from “antique” sources has become in society of risk we live in of great importance for professional client-oriented social work development in the 21st century. Reports will be given by prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane, assist. prof. Guntis Dišlers, assist. prof. Dace Dolace. Mentioned teachers will take part in three workshops held in May 10-11, 2023, in The Netherlands. The conference is organized by University of Applied Sciences of Socoial Work (CHE) (The Netherlands). Two days together to exchange ideas, to network and to explore options for joint study programs.

Celebrating 75 years of Israel in Riga

75th anniversary of the State of Israel were celebrated in Riga, April 20, 2023. Colleagues from Klaipeda University (Lithuania) visited Academy

Colleagues from Klaipeda University (Lithuania) – academic prorector prof. Sonata Mačiulskyte, prof. Rita Vaičekaskaute and prof. Elvyra Aciene from Chair of Social work visited the Academy. Several important questions were discussed: consortium for Doctoral studies in social work (in cooperation between the Academy, Klaipeda University and Lapland University, Finland); mobility of staff and students within the ERASMUS+ framework; lectures of prof. Rita Vaičekaskaute on social work methodology at European Christian Academy.

Students from St. Ignatius Loyola University of Applied Sciences

In April 10-22, 2023, seventeen students from St. Ignatius Loyola University of Applied Sciences attended intensive course to master piloting module “Audit of social servicess”, its goals and tasks. From Lithuanian side the course was managed by assist. prof. Egle Purvaneckaite and ass. prof. Laimute Anužiene. N

EZA conference in Brussels

International conference “Workers’ organizations as motivators of social innovations” organized by EZA (European Center for Workers’) was held in Brussels, March 21-23, 2023. Participants form European Christian Academy – Rector Skaidrīte Gūtmane and assist.prof. Guntis Dišlers took part in the panel discussion “Innovations and industrial future in the changing world”.

Lectures on Babylonian Talmud by prof. Haim Weiss (Ben Gurion University, Israel)

In February 13-16, 2023, Christian Academy in cooperation with Israel Embassy in Latvia, Ambassador Mrs. Sharon Rappoport-Palgi, organized lectures on Anthropologcial questions in Babylonian Talmud, the most important text of Judaism by world-famous judaist prof. Haim Weiss (Ben-Gurion University in the Negev, Israel) at Aula Minor of University of Latvia.
Lectures attracted professionals from helping professions – social workers, social pedagogues, religious scientists historians of culture, policy makers.
One week intensive course opened up possibility to discuss modern issue of human identity crisis. The discussions were held in a very welcoming atmosphere, clarified many questions of modern philosophy and history of reveleation given to Jews.
European Christian Academy has cooperation agreement with Ben-Gurion University in the Negev and Centre of Jewish Studies.

EC-EZA General Assembly

EZA General Assemby of EC organization EZA (European Center for Workers’ Questions) conviened in Vilnius (LT), December 2022. The key topic was development of the European Social dialogue. European Christian Academy is one of the key partners with EC organiztions since 2004. Rector of EZA prof. Skaidrīte Gūtmane took part in discussions and group work.

New master study program “Social entrepreneurship and social work”

The new joint master study program “Social entrpreneurship and social work” is developed in cooperation between partners of the international consortium – VID Specialized University (NO), Klaipeda University (LT) and European Christian Academy as coordinating institution. The first meeting of the interuniversities’ team was moderated by prof. Sonata Sonata Mačiulskytė (KU) and prof. Skaidrite Gūtmane (ECA). Development of the program envisages several steps. The networking platform “WE-THINK” was created for an experimental piloting course for the project.
